A cephalohematoma is an accumulation of blood under the scalp. During the birth process, small blood vessels on the head of the fetus are broken as a result of minor trauma.
Treatment
In most instances, your newborn will not need any treatment for cephalohematoma because it goes away without any medical interventions. The bump goes away after several weeks or months. Occasionally a doctor may attempt to drain it, though this is not always necessary.
How long does it take for a cephalohematoma to go away?
You can expect the bump to go away in several weeks to a few months. Some injuries may take up to three months to heal completely.
