Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a condition in which acid-containing contents in your stomach flow back or return into your esophagus. Your doctor may recommend to change some lifestyle habits and dietary changes along with some over-the-counter or prescription medications in order to relieve your symptoms such as:

1. Antacids: as it provide quick relief by neutralizing stomach acids. But overuse of antacids can cause side effects like diarrhea or kidney problems.

2. H2 receptor blockers as it can help decrease acid.

3. Proton pump inhibitors: which are stronger acid blockers that also help heal damaged esophagus tissue.

4. Baclofen as it can ease symptoms by decreasing the frequency of relaxations of the lower esophageal sphincter.
