During surgery yesterday, Dr Hovland was able to easily remove the old scleral buckle and decided not to put on a second buckle. So far less trauma to my eye and better chance of more improved vision going forward.
The post-op check today shows the retina completely attached In the photo I'm showing how much of my vision has not yet improved - a fairly small area in my macula (or center of vision). Of course, I'm still looking through silicone oil, Perfluoron, and a cataract so it still is like looking through waxed paper. But it is definitely better!
I'll check in with Dr Hovland weekly until I can get cataract lens replacement surgery (with another doctor) scheduled and done. After that, Dr Hovland will do some laser stitching and then hopefully within 3 months I'll have all the oil removed and replaced with saline. And I'll be done!
I'm cautiously optimistic and will take it very easy over the next couple of weeks to give my eye the best chance possible for healing.
Thanks to Diana, family, and friends for all the prayers and support you all have provided. It feels like we're rounding the curve and heading down the home stretch!
PS In the photo my hands are in front of my right eye - it looks a bit like I got into a fight
