Microbiology tests and other tests :

Normally, CSF does not contain any bacteria, fungi, viruses, or parasites.

1_ CSF Gram stain➡ this test is always performed on CSF when an infection is suspected.

2_ CSF culture➡ is used to detect any bacteria or fungi in the sample. A negative culture does not rule out an infection.

3_ Molecular testing of the CSF by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) This method detects the bacterial, viral, fungal, or parasitic genetic material (DNA, RNA)

4_ Tests to detect antibodies or Ag produced against or from microbes.

لو فيه organism لم ينموا علي الأطباق ممكن أبعت عينة وأشوف ال organism بال PCR ممكن ندور علي ال AB أو ال Ag اللي خرج ضد أو من الميكروب

5_ CSF AFB testing ➡ used to detect infection with mycobacteria T. B.

6_ parasites may be detected in CSF by molecular tests, culture, or microscopic exam.

7_ CSF syphilis testing (VDRL)
